Little about San Mangden

and his artworks

As an artist, San Mangden explores the complexities of the human experiences using a variety of materials, including metal, plastic, paper, plaster, and even discarded trash. His works inspires from human experiences and focus on the inner journey of the individual, exploring themes such as the purpose of life and the inevitability of death.

Born and raised in the challenging backdrop of a Bhutanese Refugee camp in Nepal, Mangden's early life was shaped by the dualities of survival and cherished memories. Within the confines of the refugee experience, he found not only resilience but also moments of joy that left an indelible mark on his artistic perspective.

Struggling with the complexities of his own identity, he embarked on a personal quest to unravel the mysteries of life. Throughout his BFA years, he became captivated by the concept of identity, questioning who we are beyond our physical bodies. His exploration extended to the duality inherent in life – the interplay between joy and sorrow, light and dark, life and death.

Mangden's art is not merely a reflection of personal introspection; it is a universal exploration of the human condition. By challenging the boundaries of traditional materials and embracing the complexity of our shared journey, he encourages us to embark on our own contemplative exploration. In doing so, he emerges as an artist whose creations transcend the physical, inviting us to ponder the depths of our souls and the profound interconnectedness of our existence.
